About Us

The first year in the classroom is tough, no doubt. It is a well-known fact that most new teachers will leave the teaching profession within five years of beginning. Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent changes that have happened in American schools, teachers are quitting at even higher rates, many leaving during the school year.

When this is the reality that new teachers are faced with, what keeps them going? More importantly, what can schools do to retain their new hires? Schools don't often look to the newer voices when trying to find solutions, but oftentimes, younger teachers are not far removed from their degree programs in which they learned best practices.

The New Teacher's Survival Project is here to amplify the voices of new teachers and their experiences to provide empowerment and solidarity to new teachers, as well as guidance to school leadership.
